Job Specifics

Duties Description The Parks and Recreation Aide 2 (Naturalist) will work in Park Operations under the direction of the Environmental Educator 2, SG-18, or their designee in the Environmental Education & Interpretation/Recreation Department. The incumbent will perform duties, including but not limited to, the following:
• Assist in the development and implementation of environmental education courses and programs dealing with the various flora, fauna and historic features of the area.
• Assist in leading indoor and outdoor recreational programs; carry and transport program materials to program sites.
• Generate informational displays and literature.
• Assist with planning and running special events and recreational activities.
• Work with other park staff as assigned, including supporting programs at other regional facilities.

Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualification per Civil Service.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy manual labor.
• Must be physically able to lift up to 40 pounds
• Must be able to work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Possess a background in natural sciences, environmental studies, conservation, recreation or education.
