Job Specifics

Duties Description The Communications Intern will focus on a blend of research, writing, editing, and digital engagement, helping to shape the agency’s public voice. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn and practice communications in a dynamic, fast-paced government setting.

Core Responsibilities:
• Research, draft, and copy edit content for newsletters, social posts, and press materials
• Review and edit content for accuracy and clarity using the NYSDOL Style Guide
• Assist with newsletter publication, including compiling and maintaining a newsletter archive, reaching out to points of contact for content and updates, and performing basic administrative tasks
• Develop social media content and learn to utilize Brandwatch for social media analysis
• Draft press advisories, releases, and talking points under staff guidance
• Support Public Information Officers with handling press/media inquiries

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Be a United States citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States

Be 18 years of age or older

Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State*

Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program

Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or the letter grade equivalent


Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
• Basic understanding of social media and its role in messaging.
• Basic understanding of NYS Government.
• Grasp of current events.

• Communications Studies
• Liberal Arts
• Public Administration
