Job Specifics

Duties Description We are looking for a highly creative, detail driven Communications Specialist & Community Liaison who is passionate about public service and community impact. In this role, you will help shape and uphold Senator April Baskin’s public presence, ensuring that her legislative priorities, district initiatives, and community focused work are clearly and effectively communicated to the people she serves.

Regular travel throughout the district will be required for key events. Access to a vehicle is recommended but not required. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of graphic design, event planning, and event execution to help highlight Senator April Baskin’s groundbreaking legislative work and her commitment to serving the needs of NYS Senate District 63, which encompasses Buffalo, Cheektowaga, and Lackawanna, NY.

Key Responsibilities:
Graphic Design & Creative Communications

•Design graphics, flyers, brochures, reports, signage, and event branding materials
•Develop visual storytelling pieces to highlight legislative achievements, district services, and community initiatives
•Build and maintain cohesive branding templates for internal and external communications
•Produce and edit short videos or visual content for digital or in person use
•Support written communications such as newsletters, fact sheets, and program guides with strong visual design
•Collaborate with the Senior Communications Advisor, Senator and team to ensure accurate and timely posting of district information and legislative achievements

Community Affairs Planning & Execution:

•Lead and assist with planning and executing community events and meetings, resource fairs, and press events
•Lead creation of all event related visual materials, including signage, step and repeats, programs, and informational packets
•Coordinate logistics such as attendee and vendor outreach, event materials, registration processes, and day of staffing
•Assist team with capturing photos and videos at events for use in future materials
•Assist with constituent letters

Collaboration & Strategic Planning:

•Work closely with the Senior Communications Advisor and District 63 team to maintain consistent messaging and branding
•Offer creative input on constituent engagement strategies and event concepts
•Track trends in design, storytelling, and public facing communications to continuously improve outreach

Minimum Qualifications •High School Diploma/GED required; college coursework in communications, graphic design, marketing, or a related field preferred
•Proven experience in graphic design or visual communications
•Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and similar design tools
•Familiarity with basic website editing platforms (WordPress, Squarespace)
•Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
•Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
•Commitment to public service; understanding of local/state government preferred
•Proficiency in social media platforms and analytics to measure performance and optimize content

Additional Comments The salary range is $35,000 to $40,000, commensurate with education and experience.
