Job Specifics

Duties Description Duties include but are not limited to: Candidates must have skilled experience in carpentry, steel fabricating, painting and operating gunite equipment; candidates must have experience in erecting scaffolding and be able to operate sandblasting equipment; candidates must be able to receive instructions from the Bridge Repair Supervisors 1 & 2 and be able to give oral instructions and advice to Bridge Repair Assistants and Trainees; and candidates must be able to supervise bridge repair sub crews on small bridge repair and maintenance projects such as repairing bridge railings and bridge deck holes. The selected candidate will also be required to perform snow & ice operations and be able to report within the maximum of one hour of call up. Within 1 year of appointment the selected candidate will be required to hold and maintain both a NYS welding certification and a valid Class A driver’s license.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade related to bridge repair, maintenance and construction under a skilled journey level worker which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a bridge or mechanical trade or training gained by completion of a technical course in a bridge or technical trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above on a year-for-year basis. At the time of appointment, candidates must possess a valid New York State Operator’s License for the type of vehicles operated.

Additional Comments Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

The starting salary for this position is $59,425. This is comprised of the base salary of $50,425 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
