Job Specifics
Duties Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, supporting more than 4,900 applications for 53 New York State Agencies.
Under the direction of the Information Technology Architect 2, the Technology Analyst 2 (Cloud Solutions) will be responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of secure and efficient cloud-based IT systems to meet client agency business needs. The position will collaborate with business managers and IT professionals to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications, ensuring the successful execution of IT projects. This position may directly supervise a team of Technology Analyst 1’s (Cloud Solutions).
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assess the business and application requirements to integrate into a cloud environment.
• Design, configure, and maintain cloud systems and services.
• Monitor and analyze the performance of cloud services.
• Resolve technical issues related to cloud computing environment.
• Assist in the development of cloud management strategies.
• Implement and manage security controls, governance processes, and compliance validation.
• Collaborate with IT professionals to ensure cloud solutions are efficiently integrated and aligned with business objectives.
• Create reports and documentation related to cloud processes and system upgrades.
• Recommend improvements and alternatives to enhance cloud systems.
• Keep abreast of current industry trends, technologies, and security risks associated with cloud computing.
• Manage disaster recovery and create backup strategies.
• Train and guide staff in cloud computing best practices.
• This position may perform the full range of supervisory duties.
Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of broad information technology (IT) experience, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of various IT disciplines and how they intersect within large-scale organizations.
o At least two (2) years of IT experience must be in cloud computing or a related technical role.
Education/Experience Substitutions
Earned college degrees in information technology, computer science, or a related field of study may substitute for the specified years of broad IT experience as follows:
o Associate’s degree substitutes for 2 years of experience.
o Bachelor’s degree substitutes for 4 years of experience.
o Master’s degree substitutes for an additional 1 year of experience.
o Doctoral degree substitutes for an additional 2 years of experience.
Preferred qualifications:
• Preference for candidates holding relevant cloud analyst certification, including but not limited to:
o AWS Certified Solutions Architect
o Google Professional Cloud Architect
o Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• Comprehensive understanding of cloud services, including storage, networking, and databases, to effectively analyze and manage an organization’s cloud computing strategy.
• Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise in the cloud environment.
• Exceptional analytical skills to evaluate cloud application requirements and make recommendations for improvements and optimization.
• Excellent communication skills to clearly explain complex cloud reports to IT and non-IT staff, aiding in decision-making processes.
• Proficiency in cloud computing technologies and platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience in data analysis and interpretation to effectively understand and use data gathered from cloud platforms.
• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure and applications, network structures, and data security protocols in a cloud context.
• Familiarity with programming languages like Python, Java, or Ruby.
• Ability to work collaboratively with IT teams to design and implement effective cloud strategies and ensure seamless integration with existing systems.
Please note:
• Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.
• Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.
Additional Comments Fingerprinting and background check are required for employment with ITS.
This position will be located in either Albany, NY or New York City.

Positions located in New York City, will receive an additional $4,000 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $2,000 adjustment location pay.
