Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) regularly drives any of variety of motor vehicles including automobiles, buses, and trucks, to transport people, material, and equipment as required. The incumbents may post manifest and other records of goods and people transported to document their safe delivery.
CLASSIFICATION CRITERIA AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The most distinguishing feature of this position is the job requirement of driving skills in the operation of variety of motor vehicles, as indicated by possession of appropriate licenses. The license required for this job is the General Class D New York State driver’s license. Motor Vehicle Operator are involved on a full-time basis. There are possibilities of over time.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES, TASKS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Drives a variety of motor vehicles on both and off State property to transport people, vehicles to repair shops and to residential homes to pick up and or deliver motor vehicles.
• Monitors gauges and checks fluid levels and tire pressures.
• Changes oil and spark plugs.
• Changes tires and windshield washers.
• Pump gas and add water or fluids to radiator and air to tires.
• Replaces lamp bulbs.
• Maintain vehicle records.
• Inspect vehicles as required and note defects and repair.
• Knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of vehicle in question.
• Knowledge of the nature of cargo and people carried, and any special handling required.
• Knowledge of simple automobile repair and maintenance procedures.
• Ability in the operation of motor vehicles as required.
• Ability to lift and carry crates, cartons, boxes, and other cargo onto and off transport vehicles.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS
This position encompasses working alone and with people. This involvement may range from limited verbal exchanges of information to frequent exchanges with a large number of passengers to ensure a order and safe trip.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates are required to possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Appointees to these positions will be required to have and maintain a valid Class D or higher drivers’ license from the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.
