Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position which are as follows: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description Under the supervision of a Biologist or Technician, Seasonal Technician will assist in various samplings techniques, including but not limited to: limnological lower trophic state and water quality; fisheries - gill netting, seining, hydroacoutics, fyke netting, electrofishing (boat and backpack) and mussel surveys. Must be able to identify fish; work in a variety of inclement weather conditions and difficult terrain is possible. Technician must effectively interact and communicate with the public and other members of the team. Night and weekend work will be required. Experience in zooplankton identification, enumeration, and determining population matrixes is highly valuable.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds. Capable of safely trailering and operating boats along with working on outboard motors is a plus. Experience in zooplankton identification, enumeration, and determining population matrixes is highly valuable.
This is a temporary appointment with a duration of 04/01/18 - 11/30/18.
