Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year to year basis.

Two positions are being filled at this location. One will focus heavily on electrical work and the other on carpentry/masonry work.

For the electrician position, preference will be given to candidates with experienced in the electrical/mechanical trades, apprentice training in an electrical trade, and a working knowledge of electrical distribution, pumps and controls, generators and off grid electrical system, including solar.

For the carpentry position, preference will be given to candidates with experienced in carpentry and masonry trades, especially in roofing, siding, trim, tile and shop fabrication.

Duties Description This position includes site work/excavation, masonry, plumbing, carpentry and electrical maintenance and construction at all regional facilities. General Mechanics must have the ability to plan and lay out construction, repair and maintenance projects, and have a working knowledge of applicable standards and plumbing and electrical code regulations. A working knowledge of tools and resources is necessary to achieve these tasks. General Mechanics frequently supervise maintenance staff which requires frequent oral communications in assigning work and providing instructions. Will be required to operate, load and transport heavy equipment.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. Must have a valid Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.

This is a temporary position with a duration of 4/15/18 through 11/30/18.
