Job Specifics
Duties Description As a Recreation Assistant, under the supervision of professional treatment staff, your duties will include:
• Collaborating with treatment team and planning recreation and rehabilitation activities
• Teaching and coaching individuals on sports, games, and other group activities and encouraging participation
• Observing and recording individuals’ responses to activities
Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program if the have two years of experience in providing direct care to individuals receiving care and/or treatment in facilities and programs.
OR
Candidates must be reachable for appointment as a Recreation Assistant from the Paraprofessional Careers in Mental Hygiene eligible list.
OR
Candidates from within State Service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
NOTE: After two years of experience as a Recreation Assistant, Grade 11, the employee will receive a non-competitive promotion to Recreation Worker, Grade 14.

The posted salary includes the starting salary as a Recreation Assistant, ISU SG-11 and the ending salary as a Recreation Worker, PS&T, SG-14
Additional Comments:
This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000.
