Job Specifics

Duties Description This Biologist 2 (Widllife) position will be responsible for co-managing the Bureau of Wildlife programs within the region and will be directly responsible for supervising the Wildlife Diversity program and staff. Duties include direct supervision of Biologist 1, Technician and seasonal staff to manage an extensive regional workload that consists of review of potential Part 182 Incidental Take Permit applications for potential direct, indirect and environmental impacts to wildlife species listed as threatened, endangered and species of special concern (ETS), provides guidance to staff, other DEC programs, consultants and applicants on avoidance measures and opportunities to avoid/reduce impacts related to incidental take of ETS, prioritize, manage and direct research activities conducted in the region in accordance with program direction, co-manage WMA maintenance and wildlife enhancement projects as necessary for the protection and enhancement of protected species, coordinate and manage BOW responses to requests for review of permit applications and requests from the public, the regulated community, press and elected officials regarding ETS species, provides direction and guidance to staff to ensure compliance inspections are conducted for both permitted activities and to ensure avoidance measures have been implemented for activities meeting avoidance standards. Duties will also include determining recommendation for approval or denial of permits, providing input on conditions relating to issuance of Part 182 permits or permit conditions for avoidance measures for all other permits, lead ETS enforcement related activities working with Law Enforcement, Office of General Counsel and the Office of Attorney General on enforcement of all Rules, Regulations and Laws pertaining to Part 182 jurisdictions in the region, including presentation of expert testimony at administrative and civil hearings and takes lead in working with stakeholders including private, corporate, governmental and elected officials for matters involving implementation of Region 3 Part 182 Incidental Take Permits and/or avoidance measures for ETS species and all other ETS related activities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or

Transfer Eligible under Section 70.1 - One year of permanent competitive service as a Biologist 2 (Aquatic), (Ecology), (Marine) or (Wildlife), SG23.
