Job Specifics

Duties Description The Bureau of Child and Adult Care Food Programs (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program which provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, afterschool programs and adults in day care.
The PHN 2 will serve as part of the management team within the Bureau of CACFP. The PHN 2 will conduct quality control evaluation of program review reports and corrective action plans, ensure sponsor integrity and Program adherence to federal regulations and State requirements. The PHN 2 will conduct site reviews as lead reviewer for large or complex sponsors, coordinate with fiscal staff to ensure program integrity efforts in the NYC region and provide training and technical assistance to staff and Sponsoring Organizations.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Public Health Nutritionist 2, Grade 24.

Transfer: Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent service as a Public Health Nutritionist 1, Grade 22, and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the New York State Civil Service Law.

Provisional/NCP: Current New York State Department of Health employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive or 55-b/c service in a qualifying title as listed on the last Civil Service promotion examination announcement: https://www.cs.ny.gov/announarchive/announcements/38-471010.cfm?live=false

You must be currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is necessary for continued employment as a Public Health Nutritionist 2.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate would have strong management and supervisory skills; strong analytical and organizational skills; excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing to State staff and participating agencies; ability to prioritize assignments and work independently on numerous tasks simultaneously; and effective time management skills to maintain multiple projects and timelines.

Provisional appointees will be required to take the next Public Health Nutritionist 2, Grade 24, exam when it is held and receive a reachable score on the eligible list once released in order to maintain employment.

If three or fewer New York State Department of Health promotional candidates respond to this notice, the agency may, at its discretion, nominate a qualified employee for non-competitive promotion (NCP) under the provisions of Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. Employees must have one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent service as a Public Health Nutritionist 1, Grade 22.

This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
