Job Specifics

Duties Description The Ideal candidate will play a vital role in shaping state laws, advocating for community needs, and serving constituents. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to serves as the primary policy advisor to a New York State Assembly member. Responsibilities include developing and advancing legislation, conducting policy research, tracking bills, and coordinating with stakeholders, agencies, and advocacy groups. Prepares memos, talking points, and committee testimony, and supervises legislative staff. Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills are essential, along with knowledge of the legislative process and the Assembly’s priorities. This is a fast-paced role requires attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, law, communications, or a related field.
Experience:
• Legislative or policy experience, often working in government offices, advocacy organizations, or legislative research roles.
*Will consider other factors in lieu of legislative / policy experience*
• Strong background in drafting legislation, policy analysis, and understanding the legislative process.
• Experience managing legislative staff and coordinating with stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, and lobbyists.
• Familiarity with New York State legislative procedures, committees, and political environment.
• Skills in strategic planning, communication, and leadership.
