Job Specifics

Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Safety and Health Program Manager, the incumbent will supervise staff of Safety and Health Inspectors and Industrial Hygienists engaged in the conduct of safety and health inspections of public sector facilities including state, county, city and town office buildings to ensure conformance with New York State occupational safety and health standards. The incumbent will plan and schedule the work, monitor employee performance and program operations, and train subordinates.

Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Reassignment Qualifications:
Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a Supervising Safety & Health Inspector; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Supervising Safety & Health Inspector eligible list for this location, if one exists.

52.7 Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP) Qualifications:
To be eligible for NCP, candidates must be in the Department of Labor promotion field and have one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service as an Associate Safety and Health Inspector; or two years as a Senior Safety and Health Inspector. If 3 or fewer qualified Department of Labor Associate Safety and Health Inspector or Senior Safety and Health Inspector respond to this posting, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified Associate Safety and Health Inspector or Safety and Health Inspector without further examination.

Note: Non-competitive refers to not competing in an examination; the appointment will be competitive.

Provisional Qualifications:
NYS Department of Labor employees only
One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as an Associate Safety and Health Inspector or two years as a Senior Safety and Health Inspector.
The appointed candidate would have to take, pass and be reachable on the next holding of the examination to be appointed permanently.
