Job Specifics
Duties Description • Perform daily field inspections.
• Assist with P-Card purchases, including reconciliation (purchase supplies, track the supplies to the project, and verify in AiM).
• Ensure that financial data is entered in AiM.
• Communicate with Tenant construction contacts on project scope and progress.
• Participate in team preliminary project scope definition.
• Communicate with various local union shops to procure or replace per diem employees.
• Assist the Building Construction Program Manager 2 (BCPM 2) in reviewing project plans to ensure code compliance noting any change orders additions to original scope of work.
• Visit each large-scale project site to ensure work is being completed on schedule.
• Maintain direct communication with construction team(s) to address any issues.
• Update project status in AiM for accurate tracking.
• Work with internal staff to ensure project assignment dates are met.
• Conduct project completion walk throughs with tenant representatives, report any deficiencies, and create corrective action plans as needed.
• Coordinate work with outside contractors to include tenant approved scheduling and/or material sourcing.
• Prepare purchase requests for BCPM 2 and submit for approval.
• May perform a full range of supervisory duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Operational Needs:
• Must have the ability to read construction blueprints.
• Proficient using AiM (Work Order management).
• Experience in construction estimating.
• Asbestos Supervisor Certification required within 90 days of employment.
• Familiar with building codes and compliance.
• Must be able to work overtime, including weekends and holidays if needed.
• Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
Required Experience: Three years of experience** assisting in the management of multi-trade construction projects from inception to completion to include cost estimating, construction planning and scheduling; contract document reading and interpretation, including agreement and conditions, plans and specifications; and construction inspection to ensure compliance with building codes for construction projects.
****Applicant degrees in related fields may substitute for experience as follows:
• No degree: Three years of required experience.
• Associate degree: two years of required experience.
• Bachelor’s degree: four years of required experience.
• Master’s degree: five years of required experience.
• Doctorate degree: six years of required experience.
OR
Applicants may also be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title OR are a current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as an Assistant Superintendent of Construction and are interested in reassignment of the Civil Service Law.
NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES ALONG WITH THE HOURS PER WEEK FOR EACH POSITION LISTED.
Additional Comments *There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
