Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the direction of the Plant Superintendent C, the Maintenance Assistant will perform the following duties, but not limited to:
• Carpentry: Patch, paint, and repair all surfaces, including doors, cabinets, walls, and façades. Conduct landscaping repair, removal, and maintenance duties. Perform and schedule inspections according to industry standards. Maintain and file records accordingly. Procure items to accomplish all tasks according to policy guidelines.
• Electrical: Replace or repair electrical equipment, such as outlets, switches, lighting, circuit protection, and drive motors. Perform and schedule inspections according to industry standards. Maintain and file records accordingly.  Procure items to accomplish all tasks according to policy guidelines.         
• Plumbing: Perform basic repairs to drain and vent systems. Conduct routine cleaning and clog removal service. Perform and schedule inspections according to industry standards. Maintain and file records accordingly. Procure items to accomplish all tasks according to policy guidelines.
• HVAC: Perform HVAC equipment routine maintenance. Replace filters accordingly. Repair HVAC control systems and associated parts. Perform and schedule inspections according to industry standards. Maintain and file records accordingly. Procure items to accomplish all tasks according to policy guidelines.
• Fleet: Operate, monitor, and properly record transportation vehicle usage. 

Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson;


OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program;

OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services..

Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Additional Comments Shift is variable due to the responsibilities of the position. Must be flexible to work additional hours beyond the normal workday/workweek and flex hours to meet the operational needs of the facility.  May be required to participate in an on-call roster.

One permanent, non-competitive, full-time appointment.

The posted salary range ($51,641 - $61,413) includes a geographic pay differential of $9,000.
