Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a natural science and a minimum of five years of experience in an accredited forensic laboratory. A Master’s degree in a natural science may substitute for one year of the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will also have training and experience conducting audits/assessments, specifically related to forensic laboratory accreditation, membership in national or regional forensic organizations and/or certification from an organization recognized by the Forensic Specialties Accreditation Board is desirable.
Duties Description The Laboratory Accreditation Specialist 2 (LAS2) will assist the Director and Supervisor of Forensic Laboratory Accreditation Programs in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of public forensic laboratories in New York State. This involves maintaining a program of accreditation for these laboratories as well as assisting in efforts to enhance their quality assurance (QA) practices and providing training. It also includes facilitating statewide efforts to combat backlogs and promote uniformity in test methodologies and standardization of laboratory methods and reporting. The successful candidate will be expected to travel approximately 5% of the time and supervise scientific and support staff.
Additional Comments Initial appointment will be temporary, pending Civil Service Commission action leading to a permanent appointment.
