Job Specifics
Duties Description The Code Compliance Specialist 2 duties in Building Standards & Codes will include but are not limited to the following:
• Compliment the work of Business Systems Analysts by acting as subject matter experts for issues related to the administration and enforcement of the Uniform Code and Energy Code.
• Prepare written materials, applications, reports, technical documents etc., to support the development of modernized business processes.
• Research, update and maintain the standardized code enforcement inspection questions, applications and other documents that are used by the Direct Enforcement Unit and integrated into their code enforcement software.
• Assist Business Systems Analysts in the development and maintenance of training material, handbooks, and other documents to maximize the use of the departments Learning Management System and other new technologies.
• Assist Business Systems Analysts in conducting training courses on how to use newly acquired technologies.
Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A current certification as a Code Enforcement Official pursuant to Title 19 NYCRR, Part 434 or Part 1208 AND a bachelor's or higher degree in architectural engineering, architecture, civil engineering, construction technology, electrical engineering, fire protection engineering, fire protection technology, or mechanical engineering AND three years of full-time qualifying experience OR an associate degree in architectural engineering, architecture, civil engineering, construction technology, electrical engineering, fire protection engineering, fire protection technology, or mechanical engineering AND five years of full-time qualifying experience as described below; OR seven years of full-time qualifying experience as described below. Qualifying experience is defined as the enforcement, inspection, development, or teaching of building or fire codes; or the design of buildings in a position such as a specifications writer, draftsperson, architect, or engineer.
Minimum Qualification Substitutions:
An associate degree in a related field can substitute for two years of specialized experience; a bachelor’s in a related field degree can substitute for four years of experience; a master’s degree in a related field can substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate in a related field can substitute for six years of experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years of enforcing the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code for local government or state agency, which includes:
• Experience implementing technology projects.
• Experience using software that is designed to support building inspections and other code enforcement activities.
• Proficient in operation Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat
