Job Specifics
Duties Description Reporting directly to the Executive Director of the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs, the Deputy Director Administrative Hearings’ duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Oversee the administration and management of administrative hearings, including scheduling, case assignments, and decision issuance.
• Supervise administrative law judges and hearing officers, ensuring adherence to legal standards, policies, and procedural fairness.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training to maintain consistency and efficiency in the adjudication process.
• Ensure hearings comply with applicable laws, including the Protection of People with Special Needs Act of 2012.
• Collaborate with legal, investigative, and enforcement teams to ensure thorough case preparation and resolution.
• Monitor caseloads, review hearing outcomes, and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and fairness.
• Provide guidance on legal and procedural issues, assisting in the interpretation of laws, regulations, and precedents.
• Represent the Justice Center in external meetings, legislative discussions, and stakeholder engagements related to administrative hearings.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Law degree from an accredited law school; admission to, and member in good standing of, the New York State Bar; and four years of relevant post-bar experience.
