Job Specifics
Duties Description The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program which provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, afterschool programs and adults in other programs.
The Public Health Nutritionist 1 (PHN 1) will conduct administrative program reviews of sponsors and participating organizations to monitor and evaluate fiscal and administrative integrity and compliance with State and federal regulations. Responsibilities of the PHN 1 include: providing nutrition expertise and technical assistance to ensure the quality and safety of food service operations at participating organizations, reviewing and recommending approval of applications, reviewing budgets, and providing training related to menu planning, food service operations and maintaining required records consistent with CACFP regulations.
Minimum Qualifications Public Minimum Qualifications (HELPS Program):
A. You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
AND
B. you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics.
Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience.

Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience working in a community public health program. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong analytical and organizational skills. They will have the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities is required.

Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, must be maintained for continued employment as a Public Health Nutritionist 1.
This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
