Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Seven years’ experience in domestic violence service provision, training and/or education. A Bachelor’s Degree can substitute for four years of experience. A Master’s Degree can substitute for five years of experience.
Promotion: one year of permanent service as a Domestic Violence Program Specialist.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of domestic violence, housing, financial literacy, workplace violence, dating violence and sexual assault issues is desired. Experience in providing supervision, developing training or public presentations, and strong writing, speaking, organizational, computer and interpersonal skills are also preferred. Preference may be given to candidates who are bi-lingual and those with knowledge of adult learning theory and the instructional design process.
Duties Description Under the supervision of the Director of the Bureau of Family and Victim Resources for the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, the incumbent is responsible for the development of policy and training for state agencies, public entities, and private businesses on the promotion of financial literacy skills for victims of domestic violence and those at-risk of domestic violence; and for the provision of agency programming on the issue of domestic violence and housing. Other responsibilities include: supervision of training staff; working closely with liaisons from other state agencies, authorities, and relevant professional fields; development of public awareness materials for distribution to target audiences; and other related programs designed to enhance domestic violence literacy across various entities.
Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
• Development of research-based initiatives on the issues of financial literacy and domestic violence, including the creation of workgroups to promote knowledge of the issues, development of policy on financial literacy, preparation of educational materials and curriculums on financial literacy and strengthening the relationship between financial professionals and DV service providers;
• Representation of the agency on NYS housing initiatives as appropriate and the development of technical assistance for domestic violence service providers seeking government funding for housing and for victims of domestic violence who lack stable housing;
• Supervision of trainers, interns, consultants and other related staff working on project related to housing, financial literacy, Domestic Violence and the Workplace Training, and any other training as requested by NYS agencies for general staff;
• Providing technical assistance to NYS agencies on the issue of domestic violence, housing, and financial literacy;
• Coordination and preparation of any relevant issue-oriented reports and/or policies;
• Conducting occasional training on domestic violence, housing, and financial literacy;
• Participating, as necessary, in train-the-trainer programs for community professionals;
• Collaborating with other agency training projects and any other bureaus, as necessary;
• Other duties as assigned;
