Minimum Qualifications For Workforce Programs Specialist Trainee 1:

A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable education practices.


For Workforce Programs Specialist Trainee 2:

A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable education practices AND one year of professional experience as described below.


For Workforce Programs Specialist 1:

A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable education practices AND two years of professional experience as described below.

The professional experience must have been where your duties involved assisting unemployed or under-employed individuals in obtaining and maintaining employment while performing one or more of the following activities:

Developing and implementing plans for proposals to deliver workforce development and training programs;

Evaluating, monitoring or administering workforce development and training programs;

Managing contracts and budgets for workforce development and training programs, which must include development, negotiation, execution, fiscal management and monitoring or program review;

Determining eligibility for public assistance; or

Assessing applicants for, or receipts of, welfare employment program benefits to identify and remove barriers to self-sufficiency

Duties Description The Workforce Programs Specialist 1 duties include but are not limited to: assisting in the development, monitoring, and management of workforce development training programs and apprenticeship programs, and contracts and proposals, with routine and ad hoc reporting. A Workforce Programs Specialist 1 will also conduct field visits to apprenticeship training programs to evaluate program development. Analyze and prepare detailed reports, provide technical assistance and guidance to program sponsors, workforce development partners and other agencies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Promote and market apprenticeship to businesses and educational communities and work with partners in the development of training programs. Additional activities include coordinating events, and supporting WPS3 in the development of reports, training outlines, and data collection, and supporting regional staff in the expansion of the program.

Additional Comments Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evening and or out-stationed assignments
