Minimum Qualifications - Must be a US citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be currently attending a New York State college, university or graduate program, or be a resident of NewYork State attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State
- Must have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two-or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a more extended period of time may qualify part-time students)
- Or currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
- Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or equivalent to a C.

Preferred qualifications:
- Junior year college student or higher
- Major in Information Technology/Computer Science, Informatics, Engineering, or Information Management

Preferred skills:
- Familiarity with Exel, specifically with basic data analysis such as spotting patterns, trends, outliers and generating pivots and charts
- Scripting programming skills (Python preferred)

Duties Description The NYS Information Technology Services (ITS) is offering an opportunity to further your knowledge and experience in the growing field of Website Accessibility Testing. This internship will focus on testing NYS Agency and Program websites using a set of preferred tools to verify compliance with State and Federal Laws, as well as working directly with development teams to address problems. There will be additional opportunities to explore and learn other aspects of web development, circumstances permitting.
Preferred candidates will have familiarity with HTML and web design, screen reading tools, assistive technology, and the software development process. Enthusiasm for web development, accessibility, and leadership are encouraged.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Capable of conducting specific and holistic website, native mobile app, desktop app and document accessibility testing.
• Well-versed in a variety of common accessibility barriers people with hearing, physical, speech, cognitive, and visual disabilities experience.
• Experience in Accessibility testing of Enterprise Web applications against WCAG 2.1 Level A, AA and AAA compliance and PDF/UA requirements.
• Understand global accessibility laws and standards such as WCAG 2.1, Section 508, and ADA.
• Understand compatibility between online and software platforms with assistive technologies and their limitations of use.
• Possess knowledge of HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript development best practices (Does not need to be a developer but should be able to research and recommend solutions in these various technologies in collaboration with developers).
• Demonstrate thoroughness, and creativity with an extreme attention to detail.
• Have expertise with time management and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Passionate about improving web applications for disabled users;
• Possess empathy for people with disabilities and understand the different perspectives and needs of people.
• Demonstrate talent in building relationships and trust within teams who have been resistant to accessibility in the past is a plus.
• Possess experience working directly with people and communities of consumers with disabilities is a plus.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Possess certifications in MS Word, Excel, PDF accessibility, and / or CPACC from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals.
• Demonstrate experience in using one or more of the following assistive technologies and willingness to learn more: JAWS (Windows), NVDA (Windows), Voiceover (Mac OS, iOS), ZoomText, ZoomText Fusion, Dragon Speak, and / or other assistive technologies.
