Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description Communication and Information Transfer (40%) - Assisting Region 7 Wildlife Program by: 1) responding to wildlife-related inquiries (phone calls, letters, e-mails, in-person) from members of the public requesting information on topics such as species ecology and natural history, wildlife conflict avoidance, wildlife rehabilitation, and hunting/trapping regulations; 2) attending special outreach events (e.g. State/County fairs, sportsman shows, professional conferences) to provide information about wildlife, their habitats, management, and use/appreciation; and 3) assisting with development of educational materials (e.g. fact sheets, web pages).

Wildlife Conflict Management (30%) - Assisting with regional wildlife conflict management activities by: 1) scheduling site visits to assess damage and provide potential damage-abatement options; 2) assisting with the issuance of permits for control of nuisance/damaging wildlife such as deer, bear, beaver, and Canada goose; and 3) data entry and maintenance of nuisance wildlife database.

Hunter Education (30%) – Assisting Regional Coordinator with Region 7 Hunter Education Program (HEP). Duties include: 1) coordinating activities of volunteer instructors; 2) organizing and assisting with annual instructor workshops; 3) assisting with statewide National Archery in Schools Program (NASP); 4) managing regional HEP database; and 5) ordering, receiving, and maintaining inventory of HEP materials and equipment.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.

This is a temporary appointment with a duration of 6/7/2018 - 3/31/2019.

Assigned work schedule varies seasonally and may require availability outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, and staggered arrival and departure times.
