Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualifications for provisional appointment:
an associate’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, architectural technology, or construction technology AND one year of qualifying experience as described below;**
Or
three years of qualifying experience as described below.**
**Experience assisting in the management of construction projects from inception to completion to include cost estimating, construction planning and scheduling, contract document reading and interpretation, and construction inspection to ensure compliance with building codes for construction projects with construction cost of at least $300,000. Failure to provide the cost of construction will result in your disqualification.
Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis
or
Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 13 or higher and: Transfer eligible under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below:
55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.
Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles):
Either

Duties Description Assistant Superintendent of Construction provides construction supervision and other field and technical services for Construction projects at DEC Facilities. Projects include rehabilitation and construction of buildings, bridges, roads, dams, flood control projects, culverts, fish hatcheries, boat launches, fishing access sites, education centers, and other DEC-owned facilities and infrastructure. The incumbent will be assigned to multiple projects within DEC Regions 7, 8 and 9. This position ensures compliance with contract requirements and applicable building, environmental, and life safety codes.
Assistant Superintendent of Construction duties include:
•Assist project development and design activities including site surveys, CAD drawings, quantity takeoffs, purchasing equipment and materials, and other project management tasks
•Supervise and monitor construction contracts
•Inspect construction methods and materials for compliance with approved contract documents
•Maintain construction records and inspection reports
•Review and recommend approval of contractor payment applications
•Coordinate project closeout, including preparing AsBuilt Drawings and O&M Manuals
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
