Minimum Qualifications

• Ten years of full-time experience as a municipal police officer, Deputy Sheriff, Federal Law Officer or New York State Trooper, of which three years must have involved providing supervision at the rank of Sergeant or above (see Note 1); and,
• Six years of full-time experience in executive protection and public setting threat assessment for high-profile public officials;
• The authority to carry and conceal a firearm in New York State and under the federal Law Enforcement Officers’ Safety Act (see Note 2), and;
• Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license (see Note 2).

1. A bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or Sociology may be substituted for the three years of supervisory experience.
2. Must maintain c) and d) as a condition of employment.

Duties Description As chief fiscal officer for New York State, the Comptroller is responsible for managing the State’s pension fund, auditing the spending practices of all State agencies and local governments, overseeing the New York State and Local Retirement System, reviewing the New York State and City budgets, approving State contracts, and administering the State Oil Spill Fund.
In order to provide adequate security for the New York State Comptroller while he fulfills the duties of his office, it is necessary to employ individuals appropriately trained in executive protection and public setting threat assessment. Acting as an Executive Protection Specialist, the incumbent would be responsible for onsite threat assessments, driver services and providing expert executive protection for the Comptroller. In this capacity, the incumbent:
• Thoroughly investigates all sites prior to appearance of the Comptroller.
o Secures all unauthorized entrances and exits.
o Meets with organizers to determine agenda and schedule of events.
o Identifies and investigates background of all individuals appearing with Comptroller.
o Determines quickest means of egress in the event of an emergency or crisis.
o Alerts Comptroller to any potential danger or hazard and suggests appropriate course of action.

• Shares responsibility of driving Comptroller with other members of Comptroller’s staff.
o Identifies locations and routes to and from scheduled events.
o Travels statewide and out of state, as necessary.
o Frequent overnight travel
o Required to be on-call at all times

• As requested:
o Identifies and investigates background of all individuals appearing with Comptroller.
o Meets with organizers and security personnel to determine agenda, logistics, and schedule of events.

• In the event of a personal emergency, quickly subdues and neutralizes any individual intent on bodily harm using appropriate level of force required.
