Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications for Provisional Appointments:
You must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had one year of permanent competitive, non- competitive, or 55 b/55 c service as follows: Construction Equipment Operator, General Mechanic, Labor Supervisor, Maintenance Assistant, Maintenance Assistant Electrician, Maintenance Assistant Mechanic, Maintenance Assistant Parks, or Park Worker 3.
OR
You must have three years of experience in general construction or maintenance.
55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.
Open Competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates):
Three years of experience in general construction or maintenance and possession of a valid NYS driver's license appropriate for the types of vehicles to be operated.
Note: If there is a viable promotion examination eligible list (three acceptors) for this position, candidates who qualify under the 55-b/55-c option cannot be considered.
Duties Description Conservation Operations Supervisor 1(COS1) will supervise a crew responsible for the maintenance, improvement and construction of facilities and infrastructure, including buildings, trail systems and recreation facilities on Department property
primarily on Staten Island. The Conservation Operation Supervisor 1 will coordinate a variety of site specific
maintenance projects, material and equipment purchases, and monitor all activities related to the maintenance of facilities and property in the Region. Conservation Operation Supervisor 1 will be expected to maintain a high degree of independence in the performance of their duties and responsibilities and will be required to operate a variety of Department equipment and vehicles.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Must be available to respond to after-hour’s emergencies. Must have a valid Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
