Minimum Qualifications For Permanent Appointment: One year permanent competitive service as a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Construction) or reachable for appointment from the Senior Building Construction Engineer eligible list.
For Provisional Appointment: New York State Professional Engineers License and current registration.
Duties Description Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Construction) in the Department of State prepare, review, and analyze provisions of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Construction Code and State Energy Conservation Construction Code and develop recommendations for additions, deletions, and changes to those codes. They review plans and specifications submitted by state and local officials; advise code enforcement officials, architects, engineers, and contractors in the interpretation of provisions of the codes; and provide assistance to petitioners seeking variance from the provisions of the Uniform Code or Energy Code.
Additional Comments Based on the results of the canvass of the current eligible list for the Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Construction), the Department may elect to make a provisional appointment to this position rather than a permanent appointment. If a provisional appointment is made, the incumbent of the position will be required to compete in the next holding of the Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Construction) exam and be reachable for appointment from the newly established eligible list.
