In accordance with union contract, this position is anticipated to be filled by an eligible DEC - CSEA Operational Services Unit 03 employee who meets the minimum qualifications. Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.

Duties Description Maintenance Assistant (MA) will perform routine, repetitive maintenance, installation and repair tasks in one or a combination of the mechanical, building, and motor equipment trades. MA will repair, maintain and service regional automotive and mechanical equipment. Will be called upon to perform semi-skilled carpentry activities including repairing doors, furniture, locks and door hardware and operating tools to assemble furniture. MA will be required to schedule and track work orders and routine maintenance on computerized database system. Responsible for dispatch and tracking of regional fleet.

Additional Comments Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Travel and overtime may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must have a valid Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
