Minimum Qualifications For Nurse 1 positions, on or before the date of filing your application, you must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State, possess a limited permit to practice nursing in New York State, or be eligible to enter the examination for such license. You must obtain your NYS license within one year of the date of appointment or action will be taken to remove you from the position.

There will be no written test. If you meet the Minimum Qualifications, your education and experience will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position. Your final score must be 70 or higher in order to pass. Rank on the eligible list will be determined after adding any wartime veterans’ and Civil Service Law Section 85-a credits to your final passing score.
For Nurse 2 positions, candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State AND have one year of post-RN licensure clinical nursing experience.
Duties Description OPWDD Long Island Developmental Disabilities State Operations Office is recruiting for the Nurse 1 and Nurse 2 positions in Suffolk County.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As a Nurse 1 or Nurse 2 on an assigned shift, you would provide professional nursing services appropriate to individuals served by the program to which you are assigned. Services may include, but are not limited to, nursing interventions and their documentation, case-finding, health teaching/counseling and provision of supportive and/or restorative care. You would also participate in staff training, prepare clinical and administrative reports, maintain infection control standards, and function as a member of a treatment team. You may also act as a charge nurse on a unit or in a residence, or as house or unit supervisor in a nursing home.
As a Nurse 2, SG-16, you may also provide supervision to subordinate professional, paraprofessional, and support staff in the performance of their patient/resident care duties and be responsible for maintaining inventory standards for medicine, controlled drugs, and narcotics.

• Nurse 1 Salary Range - $66,102 to $78,426; Nurse 2 Salary Range - $78,049 to $93,849. Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T (Grade 14 - $44,564; Grade 16 - $49,727), an Increased Hiring Salary (Grade 14 - $5,641; Grade 16 - $4,363), Geographic Pay Differential (Grades 14 and 16 -$12,871), and Downstate Adjustment (Grades 14 and 16 - $3,026). Additional compensation may apply based on shift assignment.
• NOTE: Coverage is 24/7. Shifts vary: days and evenings. Permanent positions.
• All OPWDD employees must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility.
