Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 12 or higher and either:
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below;
or
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Service in an appropriate title and an associate's degree (or higher) in a paralegal/legal assistant program OR a certificate in a paralegal/legal assistant program where either the degree or certificate was granted from a regionally accredited college or university, or college or university accredited by the Accrediting council for Independent Colleges and schools (ACICS) or one approved by the American Bar Association (ABA).
55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.
Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles): Service in an appropriate title and an associate's degree (or higher) in a paralegal/legal assistant program OR a certificate in a paralegal/legal assistant program where either the degree or certificate was granted from a regionally accredited college or university, or college or university accredited by the Accrediting council for Independent Colleges and schools (ACICS) or one approved by the American Bar Association (ABA).
Duties Description The Legal Assistant 1 will be assigned to Office of General Counsel’s Natural Resource Damages (NRD) Section to support the Department's efforts in developing and pursuing NRD assessments, tracking assessment funds and restoration expenditures. The incumbent will prepare and review legal documents, litigation papers, Consent Orders, Notices of Hearing and Complaint, etc. and will prepare Orders for execution by delegated individuals and routes the documents through for signature. The candidate will be expected to become knowledgeable of the Department's policies and procedures. Due to a high case load, the candidate will need to be extremely organized to ensure that all matters are handled efficiently and effectively.
