Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or Life Sciences with a specialization in immunohematology and four years of post-degree professional experience in that field; or a master’s degree in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences or Life Sciences with specialization in immunohematology and three years of post-degree professional experience in that field; or a doctorate in the appropriate field and one year of post doctorate experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Licensed clinical laboratory technologists with work experience in clinical laboratory sciences, immunohematology, or public health. Experience performing the analysis of scientific data, preparing reports summarizing scientific findings, policies and procedures. A familiarity with regulatory oversight programs, blood bank operations and excellent written and communication skills. Specialist in Blood Bank Technology (SBB) preferred.
Duties Description The Research Scientist 3 (RS3) will be part of a technically skilled team working in the Wadsworth Center’s Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program. This program ensures that clinical laboratories and blood banks comply with all regulatory requirements. The incumbent will provide technical expertise in transfusion service, blood collection and immunohematology testing including the review of findings of on-site surveys and facility plans of correction for deficiencies. The RS3 will also assist in the investigation of blood transfusion-related incidents, review application materials, policies and procedures prepared by regulated facilities, prepare guidance documents and monitor compliance of facilities.
Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Some travel may be required. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position, satisfactory background checks may also be required.
