Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Coordinator, Education Programs.

Section 52.6 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title deemed eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

Provisional appointment: Candidates must have a master’s degree or higher and seven years of experience in the management and/or oversight of education programs. Three years of the seven years must have been in a position responsible for the management and/or oversight of postsecondary education related issues and two of the seven years must have been in a management capacity involving policy development and decision making. A doctorate in an education related field may be substituted for two years of the general experience.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Coordinator, Education Programs position in the Office of Postsecondary Access, Support and Success. This Office administers approximately $110 million dollars in grants, contracts and scholarships to colleges and universities; schools, school districts and BOCES; community based and non-profit organizations; and students. These programs seek to assist students in the preparation for, access to, support during, and the successful completion of, a postsecondary program, certificate or degree. Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, the incumbent will provide oversight and leadership to coordinate Office of Education Policy initiatives. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Coordinate a range of Office of Education Policy activities including, but not limited to, Special Education, Community Engagement and opportunity programs;
• Direct the development of research and the dissemination of information on equity and access, student preparation, service learning, workforce preparation and the professional development of teachers;
• Manage, coordinate and participate in various site visits to colleges and P-12 schools to ensure that site visits are productive and the visiting team is aware of all NYSED activities related to a specific college, district and/or college-district partnership;
• Coordinate the High Needs Nursing Program and Bundy Aid;
• Work on the development of long term plans that contribute to the development of the coordination of the Office of Education Policy activities and programs;
• Direct the development and review of drafts and critical comments on reports as well as correspondences prepared by staff;
• Direct the preparation and review of quarterly, interim and annual reports to the Regents, Governor, New York State Legislature, the United States Department of Education and other entities as required;
• Coordinate NYSED oversight for financial assistance through the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), and by chairing the Interagency Task Force on Financial Assistance; and
• Coordinate various grant programs consistent with ongoing work with teacher leadership education programs.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent or provisional appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. *Leads to maximum salary of $146,795 based on annual performance advances.
