Minimum Qualifications For Vocational Instructor 1: (1.) Four years of appropriate trade experience and a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized state educational authority; OR (2.) An Associate's Degree in a related trade area and two years of appropriate trade experience; OR (3.) A Bachelor's Degree in any area and one year of appropriate trade experience.

For Vocational Instructor 2: (1.) Four years of appropriate trade experience and a minimum of 12 college credits in pedagogy core course work earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: human development and learning; teaching students with disabilities and special health needs; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and English language arts or communication skills; OR (2.) An Associates Degree in a related trade area including or supplemented by 12 college credits of pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: human development and learning; teaching students with disabilities and special health needs; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and English language arts or communication skills; and two years of related trade experience; OR (3.) A Bachelor's Degree in any area including or supplemented by 12 college credits of pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. For Vocational Instructor 3: Initial certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.

For Vocational Instructor 4: Professional certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.

Duties Description Teach Electrical Trades to inmate population in a New York State Correctional Facility under general supervision. Your duties would include the preparation of lesson plans, course outlines, trade analyses, and may include shop layout planning, the establishment of shop safety programs, and the maintenance of tools and equipment. You will be expected to manage a classroom environment appropriately. You will also be responsible for meeting each learner's individual needs and evaluating their progress as part of record keeping duties. You may need to utilize technology as part of your instruction to enhance the educational setting.

Additional Comments This is a provisional appointment. You will be required to take the next available civil service exam and obtain a reachable score.

Vocational Instructor 1-4/Salary Grade 12-17.
