Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trade’s worker or completion of an appropriate 2 year technical school course.
Duties Description Maintenance Assistants perform a variety of semiskilled, repairs and related activities in the Residency, Sub-yards and at the Long Island Welcome Center. The tasks below are illustrative of the duties performed by the position, but not limited to:
The operation, maintenance and repair of buildings and facility equipment. Performs routine maintenance including plumbing, welding, carpentry, interior and exterior painting, masonry repairs, electrical trades including repairing electrical equipment, computer operation, and installation of roofing materials, operation and maintenance of heating and hot water equipment, as well as cleanups. Maintenance Assistants will assist Regional General Mechanic in facility maintenance projects. The maintenance and operation work of the Long Island Welcome Center will also cover the following items: interactive kiosks and video screens; computerized eating and air conditioning building management system (MBS) including gas boilers, pumps, water heaters, variable air handlers, and chillers; lighting including computerized lighting controller, and solar powered parking lot lamps; fire detection system; automated public entrance/exit doors, and rollup garage door; irrigation sprinklers system; a 150 KW natural gas emergency generator.
The selected candidate must be able to respond to emergency call outs and respond within one (1) hour of being called.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the Department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations
