Minimum Qualifications For Permanent Appointment: Permanent competitive service as a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Construction) title structure changed from Senior Building Construction Engineer or reachable for appointment from the Senior Building Construction Engineering License with current registration.

For Provisional Appointment: New York State Professional Engineers License and current registration.




Duties Description Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Construction) in the Department of State prepare, review, and analyze provisions of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Construction Code and State Energy Conservation Construction Code and develop recommendations for additions, deletions, and changes to those codes. They review plans and specifications submitted by state and local officials; advise code enforcement officials, architects, engineers, and contractors in the interpretation of provisions of the codes; and provide assistance to petitioners seeking variance from the provisions of the Uniform Code or Energy Code.

Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
