Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years investment-related experience either directly engaged in, or in support of, trading and/or portfolio management activities, including two (2) years of agency trading experience specializing in U.S. equities. One (1) year of the specialized trading experience must be at either a buy-side firm or public pension plan with at least $1billion in assets under management.
Holding a Chartered Financial Analyst designation substitutes for one (1) year of professional work experience.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Assistant Manager Public Equities Trading, the TRS Investment Officer 2 (QS/RM Trader) will assist in executing the public equity trading function for the Public Equities team. Duties will include (1) assist in the development and implementation of an overall trading strategy for each of the Systems internally managed public equity portfolios with a focus on controlling transaction costs; (2) assist in the development, enhancement and maintenance of NYSTRS' public equity trading platform including the build out of an international capability; (3) assist in capturing, measuring, analyzing and reporting transaction costs on all of the System's public equity portfolios – internally and externally managed; (4) assist in developing and maintaining working relationships with the System's Wall Street execution partners on the sell-side, other buy-side desks and key vendors; (5) provide support to the Manager for External Public Equities in the external manager due diligence process as it relates to the trading function and transaction costs of the manager(s) under consideration; (6) assist the internal and external portfolio management teams with portfolio monitoring and review; The Investment Officer 2 (QS/RM Trader) will contribute to the team's efforts to scale the investment process by maximizing the utilization of analytical tools to increase workflow efficiencies, and minimizing or eliminating manual processes.
In order to achieve the team's objectives, the incumbent will be required to interact with other departments as necessary, representing the interests of the Public Equity team with respect to investment operations, internal audit, systems, infrastructure, and business continuity. This position will require travel.

Additional Comments Preferred Skills/Expertise
Knowledge of global equity market microstructure, exchanges and related regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement while trading.
• Experience with order/execution management systems and with the use of direct market access (DMA) as a means of execution.
• Familiarity and experience trading international equities and with trading derivative securities e.g. options and futures.
• Familiarity and experience executing in various types of trading venues such as ECN's, ATS's, crossing networks and dark pools.
• Knowledge of trading platform connectivity and infrastructure.
• Experience with or knowledge of portfolio construction, risk management, performance attribution and operations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, analytical ability, and interpersonal, mentoring and teamwork skills.
• Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science and/or CFA Charter Holder or willingness to pursue.
