Duties Description Expand the capacity for analyzing, summarizing, and reporting key fiscal metrics. The emphasis of this project is on enhancing the unit’s existing database of information on fiscal performance measures. Specifically, the intern will:

• Review and update the State’s fiscal performance measures.
• Conduct research and analysis on fiscal “best practices” in other states.
• Expand the unit’s existing database of New York and multi-state information to facilitate regular reporting and analysis of fiscal trends.

In addition, the selected candidate will be responsible for reviewing the accrual methodologies utilized in development of the Division of Budget’s GAAP basis Financial Plan projections. This project will focus on identifying areas of improvement with the goal of providing more accurate GAAP basis projections. Specifically, the intern will:

• Review the Office of the State Comptroller’s (OSC) prepared GAAP basis financial statements accrual methodologies.
• Compare OSC methodologies with DOB methodologies for purposes of ensuring consistency.
• Provide recommendations for improvement and/or revision to DOB accrual methodologies.

The intern may also be tasked with assisting the Expenditure Team to complete urgent or comprehensive statewide data reviews/ data entry, including the First Quarterly Financial Plan Update, as needed.
