Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Either 1.) graduated from high school or be in possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND one year of library clerical experience; OR 2.) 30 college semester credit hours, of which at least 9 college semester credit hours MUST be in any combination of the following: library/information science, computer applications, or information studies.

Minimum qualifications for taking the promotional examination: Three months of permanent competitive, 55-b/55-c, non-competitive, or labor class service in a clerical, keyboarding, or secretarial position allocated to Grade 6 or higher.

Qualifying experience for appointment from the eligible list: After one year of the service described in the Minimum Qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment from the eligible list.

Duties Description Library Clerks perform specialized library clerical activities in support of a library program, such as organizing and maintaining the library collection, helping customers locate information, maintaining and creating online databases, and directing the acquisition, shelving, and rebinding of books. Incumbents are responsible for one or more organizational units within the library, such as public reader services, which may include circulation, interlibrary loan, special collections and periodicals, acquisitions, or technical services. May supervise subordinate staff and/or provide direction to student or offender workers in the performance of library activities.
