Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager 2 or other supervisory personnel, the incumbent will perform journey-level electrician work and supervise others in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical systems and equipment. The electrician trade, for reasons of safety, requires care and precision in its performance following applicable electric code regulations. Additional knowledge of motor equipment, small engine devices and skilled and semi-skilled work in the masonry trade may be needed. The incumbent will perform a variety of duties involving reconstruction, rehabilitation and repairs at Gantry Plaza State Park and as needed at various parks within the NYC region. The General Mechanic will direct and carry out maintenance and repair on a variety of buildings and other structures and will adhere to professional standards common to the electrical, plumbing, carpentry and masonry trades. The General Mechanic will lay out work following blueprints and specifications of oral or written instructions; diagnose problems; draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale as needed; make detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects and order supplies as needed following NYS procurement guidelines. The General Mechanic will be responsible for overall coordination, supervision and execution of projects as assigned by higher level personnel such as the Park Manager 2 or Complex Manager. The incumbent will be trained on the operation of the Spray Pad feature at Gantry Plaza State Park. The incumbent will prepare water samples for lab testing, monitor the chlorine, Ph and UV settings. The incumbent will diagnose and repair any electrical, lighting or outlet wire needs within the Spray Pad to ensure the safe operation of the Spray Pad. The General Mechanic may act independently with a minimum of direct supervision and will assign, supervise, review, train and evaluate the work of seasonal and/or other permanent employees at Gantry Plaza State Park. The General Mechanic may assist in other aspects of park and programs supervision unique to Gantry Plaza State Park and may serve as second-in-command of the park at the direction of the Park Manager 2 or Complex Manager if no higher manager is present.

Additional Comments Operational Needs:
The required work week is Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm and may include evenings, holidays and Sunday and Monday shifts as needed.

Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft computer programs, including Excel, Word and e-mail.
- Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
- Must have knowledge of good safety practices.
- Must be able to work from heights and be trained to operate all maintenance equipment at Gantry Plaza State
Park.
- Incumbent must have fall protection certification and confined space certification or obtain them within the
probationary period.
