Minimum Qualifications Grade 14 - Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Public Health or
another closely related field and one year of experience in that field. Thirty graduate hours
leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required
experience.
Grade 18 - Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Public Health or
another closely related field and two years of professional research experience in that field or a
Master’s degree in the above fields and one year of professional research experience in that
field.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate will have experience collecting water samples for a variety of analytes,
including chemical and microbiological, experience collecting air sampling for microbiological
organisms, and developing corresponding sampling protocols, experience conducting analysis of
weather patterns in relation to disease incidence, and/ or experience conducting data analysis using
SAS, SatScan, ArcGIS, and NVivo. Preference will be given to candidates with familiarity with
cooling tower operations, including chemical applications, cycles of concentration, and materials
and maintenance and/ or familiarity with building water systems, including chemical compatibility,
water treatment, and monitoring and sampling.

Duties Description The incumbent will be responsible for supporting research, investigation, and monitoring and
evaluation activities related to the implementation of 10NYCRR Part 4, Protection Against
Legionella. Duties will include environmental sampling participating in community and nosocomial
legionellosis investigations, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, drafting reports and
publications, and other duties as assigned.
