Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must currently be in title, eligible for transfer, or meet the minimum qualifications for appointment. There is no written test. If you meet the minimum qualifications, your education and experience will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position.
Candidates for SLP2 must have one year of post-master's experience** as a Speech Language Pathologist AND
Either A: New York State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist; OR
B: American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) certification in Speech Language Pathology.
** This experience is NOT in addition to the experience required for licensure or certification. However, you must have had one full calendar year of experience rather than the nine months of experience required for licensure or certification.
2. Candidates for SLP1 must have a Master's degree in speech pathology which meets the requirements for New York State licensure as a Speech Pathologist. These are the same as ASHA requirements for entrance into a Clinical Fellowship Year. After one year of satisfactory experience as a Speech Language Pathologist 1 AND upon possession of either a New York State license or certification of clinical competency by the American Speech and Hearing Association, you will be advanced to Speech Language Pathologist 2 without further examination.
Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Speech-Language Pathologist provides clinical services for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. They function as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team or within the organizational structure of the department in which they work. As services are provided on a referral basis, travel within some of the 8 counties of the DDSO (Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego Counties) is expected. Mileage is compensated per Office of State Comptroller rules and regulations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you would participate in a broad range of experiences dealing with the communication and swallowing disorders of the individuals that we serve. You would provide clinical services upon referral and communicate findings to multi-disciplinary treatment teams. In all cases, you will apply your skills and techniques to meet the specific needs of our individuals. In addition, you will provide consultant services for treatment programming and evaluation, and provide training for paraprofessional staff and direct care staff. You will periodically review the performance of subordinate staff members and suggest corrective measure when performance inadequacies or deficiencies are identified.
Selection Criteria:
• Ability to function as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team relating to professional, para-professional and direct care staff.
• Ability to communicate in a thorough, concise, accurate and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
• Training/public speaking experience.
• Possess an acceptable time and attendance record as specified in the time and attendance guidelines.
• Possess an acceptable work record.
