Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT:

o Reachable on the Civil Service List for Nutrition Services Administrator 2 OR
o Currently serving as a permanent Nutrition Services Administrator 2 eligible for transfer; OR
o One year of permanent competitive service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT:
For qualified employees of New York State: Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Nutrition Services Administrator 1 OR two years as a Dietitian 2, AND
Either 1. have a current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD);
Or 2. have your New York State Education Department (NYSED) certification in dietetics-nutrition AND have completed a minimum of an additional 400 hours** of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of an RD.
** The additional 400 hours required is in addition to the 800 hours of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of an RD required for NYSED certification. On your application you must provide the name of the institution where you obtained the additional hours; the name of your supervisor; and your supervisor's qualifications

Three years of post-registration/certification professional administrative experience* in a food or nutrition program of which one year MUST have included supervision; AND;

* Professional administrative experience is defined as duties focused on planning, coordinating, and supervising in a community-based, residential, hospital, or institutional nutrition services program that includes one or more program components: food distribution, food production, clinical dietetics, outpatient nutrition services, or quality management services.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION: Oversight of Nutritional Services throughout Nassau & Suffolk County.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Nutrition Discipline Coordinator and oversees the nutritional practices of 8 skilled and very professional Dietitians as they serve close to 48 group homes. Work with Team Leaders/HR to help recruit and retain Dietitians. Covers when Dietitians are on extended leave and trouble shoots with staff on Nutrition and diet related problems that arise.
2. Directly supervises 8 Dietitians. Conducts Performance Evaluations of Nutrition staff. Reviews Nutritional Assessments, household procedures related to food procurement and overall nutritional well-being of those we serve.
3. Oversees the development and practice of forms and procedures dietitians use day to day to ensure nutritional well-being. The agency uses the OPWDD Nutrition Care process. The agency has a Flex-Menu system developed by staff dietitians. The Meal Observation and Sanitation form is used by Nutrition staff to track and communicate the status of each home in following the diets, menus and sanitary procedures to the Teams and Team Leaders.

Training and education for the employees in the area of Nutrition
1. Conduct training for direct care staff on a regular basis on Nutrition and Consistency diets. Participate on a statewide committee that developed the New Employee Orientation materials and volunteered to create the new Consistency Diets video that is used throughout the OPWDD system.
2. Distributes educational emails to the agency about produce in season, food recalls and other pertinent nutrition related news.











Works with other Discipline Coordinators to develop procedures and practices to be used agency wide
1. Work closely with OT and Speech departments to insure the OPWDD Consistency Modified Diets are followed appropriately. Changes and oversight continues to be required in Diet Summary sheets and other materials used when processing and serving modified diets.
2. Work with Nursing Coordinator to insure smooth partnership with nursing and nutritional staff and practices, infection control and disease prevention.

Carries a clinical caseload and is part of Disciplinary Team for Individuals in group homes and in Article 16 Clinic
1. Carry a caseload within the group homes and some Clinic cases overseen nutritionally. This involves regular team meetings, annual and Semi-annual Nutrition Assessment, Care Plan Management, dietary recommendations and follow-up care.
2. Visits homes on a regular basis and completes a Meal Observation and Sanitation form after each visit to report back to the Treatment Team Leader on the compliance with established practices and procedures in the areas of Food procurement, diets, nutritional wellbeing, sanitation and safety.
3. Annual training of house staff on pertinent nutrition, dietary and sanitation topics.

Serves on the following Committees: Safe Patient Handling; Health & Safety; Work Place Violence Audit Team; Behavioral Review.
