Minimum Qualifications EITHER: 1) Reachable on the Civil Service eligible list; OR 2) Eligible for reassignment by virtue of having permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 (SG-18); OR 3) eligible for transfer under the provisions of Section 70.1,52.6 or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.
Duties Description The duties for the Information Technology Specialist 2 include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Perform monitoring, maintenance and configuration of our Cisco Telepresence infrastructure
• Perform monitoring, maintenance and health testing of the Video remote network environment using available tools to proactively correct inadequacies
• Respond to service requests and trouble tickets in a timely and efficient manner
• Work with the other IS units as needed to resolve issues
• Work on maintaining and configuring Citrix Netscaler Load balancing functions
• Assist the Info Tech Specialist 3 in network configuration, planning, troubleshooting and installation
• Assist other IS units in network related planning
• Assist in the budget planning process detailing projected hardware, software and facility needs
• Support the VOIP phone system including phones, servers, and Call Center
• Perform Network support for Fax Servers and analog fax lines
• Perform Network Troubleshooting using devices such as Fluke units, software such as Wildpackets and other protocol analyzers
• Pack, unpack, send and receive electronic equipment which will involve the lifting of servers, switches and other devices
• Perform Network cabling which includes attaching cable ends, as well as physically running the cables under raised computer floors, in cable channels or in computer racks
• Attend training at NYSTRS, vendor or educational locations
• Communicate with computer hardware and software vendors via telephone, fax, Internet and meetings
• Produce documentation including writing change logs, creating change requests, procedures, project schedules, Statements of Work, software specifications and RFP/RFQs
• Under the supervision of the Information Technology Specialist 3, provide assistance for assigned projects within the Networking unit
Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with IPSec and remote VPN
• Experience with VOIP and Call Center Systems
• Experience using of Cisco networking equipment, protocols and configuration
• Experience working with Wireless systems
• Knowledge and concepts surrounding Network routing, load balancing, VLANs, ACLs, trunking, BGP, OSPF and GSLB
• Experience with network equipment and network cabling
• Network trouble shooting and problem solving skills
• The ability to work seamlessly with vendor and third support systems and staff
• The ability to work both independently and within a team structure
• Commitment to providing exceptional customer service
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
