Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Education Improvement Services.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Assistant in Education Improvement Services Civil Service eligible list. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for Assistant in Education Improvement Services, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Assistant in Education Improvement Services position in the Office of Student Support Services. The position will focus primarily on providing technical assistance to school and districts in the areas of school safety and climate, as well as extended learning opportunities. It is also important for candidates to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of data collection and reporting. The successful candidate will also have assignments related to other programs and services within the Office of Student Support Services.

The office promotes student learning and wellness as well as school improvement by directing and managing programs and services designed to provide the supports necessary for children and youth to successfully fulfill their potential as students and citizens. The programs and services provided include guidance and resources to schools related to physical health, mental health, wellness, social and emotional development, school climate and safety, extended learning opportunities, pupil personnel services, academic interventions, the education of youth in foster care, as well as alternative education and education programs for youth involved with the justice system.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide technical assistance to schools, local education agencies, other public or private agencies, professional groups or parents;
• Participate in management of annual applications and program requirements related to State and federally funded grant programs;
• Arrange and conduct meetings, conferences, or workshops to support program initiatives;
• Conduct monitoring site visits, phone monitoring and technical assistance to State and federally funded grant programs, occasionally in collaboration with technical assistance centers;
• Organize, compile, and review site visit reports;
• Review grant applications and contracts related to program development plans, performance reviews, and aligned budgets;
• Serve on committees to support or advance Department initiatives;
• Assist in writing requests for proposals as well as the operation of the applications review process and qualifications of potential reviewers;
• Collaborate with the New York State Education Department’s Information and Reporting Services (IRS) Office regarding the School Safety and Educational Climate (SSEC) reporting and data collection systems; and
• Perform special assignments as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance and other benefits. Verification of transcripts will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position requires regular, statewide travel.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $88,124 based on annual performance advances.
