Minimum Qualifications Completion of a New York State 2 year Refrigeration Mechanic Traineeship or a 2 year New York State Refrigeration Repair and Maintenance Training program or completion of any equivalent Refrigeration 2 year Training or Apprenticeship program. (Traineeship and training program include a total of 288 hours of trade specific classroom instruction, 45 hours technical math course work, 45 hours technical communications, 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work must be completed with a C or better. Successful completion of the Traineeship also including 4000 hours of on the job training) Or 4 years full time experience in mechanical or electrical trades under a skilled journey-level mechanic or electrician which provides training equivalent to an apprenticeship program, 1 year in both training and work in the operation and maintenance of commercial type refrigeration/air conditioning equipment, apprenticeship training in mechanical or electrical trades/training gained by school, instituition, or branch of military may be substituted on a year for year basis.
Duties Description Responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair and installation of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment in a State Facility. Incumbents, as specialists, are responsible for supervising and training other members of the operation and maintenance staff including skilled, semiskilled and relatively unskilled workers, in servicing and repairing refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.
