Duties Description The New York State Division of the Budget is the primary fiscal advisor to the Governor, developing, negotiating and implementing one of the largest government budgets in the country. The Division’s professional staff review and develop recommendations for the Governor on State agencies’ and municipalities’ fiscal needs and prepare the State’s Executive Budget.
The proposed internship is within the Health and Aging Section of the Health Unit which is responsible for fiscal and policy oversight of a $5 billion portfolio, comprised of the non-Medicaid components of the Department of Health (DOH), the State Office of the Aging (SOFA) and the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) budgets. The dynamic health care environment will afford an intern the opportunity to collaborate both internally and externally to bring constructive solutions to existing or emerging public health challenges.
Responsibilities of the Public Health Intern would include, but are not limited to:
• Reviewing and identifying fiscal and policy impacts associated with numerous health related programs and initiatives, including General Public Health Work, Early Intervention, Ending the AIDS Epidemic, and responding to the Opioid Crisis;
• Creating and analyzing forecasting models using data loads from various sources to project spending and utilization within various key public health areas; and
• Developing briefing materials and recommendations to inform policymakers on key aspects of programs, proposed legislation and how various initiatives may impact the State, localities, and constituents.
The position will offer the intern a unique opportunity to evaluate and conduct research and develop recommendations related to the State’s public health programs and financing.
