Minimum Qualifications G18 - Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences or a related field and two years of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in physical sciences and one year of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of environmental laboratory standards, quality assurance, audits, and applicable regulations. Experience in the preparation of various environmental sample matrices for subsequent trace metals analysis, and determination of trace element concentrations in environmental samples by ICP-MS, ICP-OES and/or XRF analysis. Ability to work independently as well as excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.
Duties Description The incumbent is responsible for support activities within the Laboratory of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry and Medical Marijuana (MM) sections. Specific responsibilities include using ICP-MS, ICP-OES and/or XRF instrumentation for trace metals determination of environmental and MM products. Prepare documentation, laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for newly developed methods and techniques; maintains QA/QC and requirements for ongoing accreditation. Conduct sample preparation and acid digestions for ICP-MS/ICP-OES analysis. Develop and validate new methods of analysis for toxic metals in environmental and biological matrices in response to emerging contaminants. Develop and validate metal speciation methods for trace metals by coupling liquid chromatography to ICP-MS, and other-directed research projects commensurate with technical expertise relevant to Wadsworth Center’s public heath mission for emerging inorganic contaminants.

Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may also be required.
