Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, recreational facility; OR two years of experience as a trade’s assistant under the supervision of a skilled trades¬person, or completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager of Rockefeller State Park Preserve, the Park Worker 3 performs facility and grounds maintenance, and basic repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and equipment repairs. Performs routine maintenance using a variety of hand and power-driven equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and power saws. Maintains the Preserve’s historic carriage road system and surrounding landscape including assisting the Manager in prioritizing seasonal carriage road repair projects, coordination/oversight of repair projects performed under annual contract or by park staff, managing the annual carriage road repair budget and tracking associated expenditures. Associated duties also include removing fallen trees, pruning low branches, cleaning drainage systems, mowing fields and trail shoulders, blowing leaves, invasive species removal, and cutting vines both adjacent to the carriage roads and throughout the Preserve. These activities require the use of chain saws, chippers, stump grinders and bucket trucks and the incumbent is responsible for the safe and effective use of the equipment by staff, and for coordinating the use of equipment shared with other facilities. Additional responsibilities include maintaining Clivus Multrum toilets and on-site water system operations; maintaining records pertaining to daily maintenance, hazard trees, trucks, AED, bulk petroleum storage, audits and personal timekeeping; overseeing outside contractors related to maintenance; snow removal using shovel, snow blower or plow; and assisting with park operations and traffic control, as needed. The incumbent is expected to consult and coordinate with Preserve’s Natural Resource Specialist on management practices to achieve the Preserve’s native biodiversity and ecological stewardship goals; may interact with the Friends of Rockefeller State Park Preserve to prepare for their horse and running events and provide updates on maintenance activities as directed; may serve as Safety Officer; and will assist in emergency situations as required/directed in keeping with established emergency procedures and practices. Duties also include the supervision, training, evaluation and hiring input for subordinate maintenance staff. Employee is expected to work independently or with a minimum of direct supervision.

- Possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license as a term and condition of employment
- Must be familiar with, or willing to learn, ecological stewardship practices including recognition of common invasive and native plant species
- Must be able to operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and power saws
- Must complete chainsaw training within the probationary period
- Physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor
- Possess the ability to communicate with staff and park patrons, comprehend written material, communicate in writing, and prepare written materials or reports as directed
- Must be capable of supervising employees
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays
