Minimum Qualifications EITHER: 1) Reachable on the Civil Service eligible list (if you are on the eligible list for this title you will automatically be canvassed for this position if your score is reachable for potential employment); OR 2) Eligible for reassignment by virtue of having permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 -Prog. (SG-18); OR 3) eligible for transfer under the provisions of Section 70.1,52.6 or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.
Duties Description The duties for the Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Participation as a team member on a variety of projects including determination of time frames for assigned tasks, completing assigned tasks, assisting in unit and system testing and post-implementation support of the PeopleSoft systems
• Assistance in the analysis of user requirements such as information gathering, participating in interviews, documenting existing systems and processes, documenting requirements and developing detailed specifications
• Inclusion in discussions of the definition, design and construction of processes/structures to support project requirements
• Ensure system development and support projects adhere to application development standards and procedures, standard configurations, and policies dictated by the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System
• Assist in the support, troubleshooting and maintenance of PeopleSoft systems to ensure that New York State Teachers’ Retirement System staff are able to access their work
• Ability to collaborate on information in a team environment in order to communicate goals, objectives and knowledge
• Assist with project planning including task estimates
• Code & test interfaces, programs, online objects and reports using SQL, SQR, PeopleTools and PeopleCode
Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with PeopleSoft, PeopleTools & PeopleCode
• Experience with SQR & SQL
• At least one year applied experience in application development
• Familiarity with relational database programming techniques, Oracle preferred
• Functional knowledge of Public Sector PeopleSoft (ex: Payroll, Pension, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Actuary, Time Reporting, etc.)
• Commitment to providing exceptional customer service
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
