Salary RangeFrom $133843 to $133843 Annually
Street Address Nathan Kline Research Institute – Center for Biomedical Imaging and Neuromodulation

Minimum Qualifications Doctorate Degree and four years of professional research experience in the appropriate field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have four years of experience in an administrative or leadership role within an imaging center; experience in combining functional MRI with both traditional and novel anatomical assays; an interest and background in the relationship of interoceptive brain systems to autonomic functioning, namely how the brain senses and controls the skin and inner organs and how this is integrated into subjective feelings, emotions and cognition; and a track record of supporting clinical partners and end users.
Duties Description This full-time Research Scientist 6 will to develop the new Comparative-Integrative Neuroimaging Laboratory (CINL) within the Translational Neuroscience Laboratories (TNL) division. The incumbent will be responsible for the development of comparative (cross-species) approaches to determining: 1) how the brain’s cognitive functions relate to specific details of underlying cellular architecture; 2) how both neural structures and related functions develop; and 3) how structural/functional abnormalities or errors, particularly those arising in development, contribute to mental illness. Of particular interest, is the development of a clear understanding of the functional and clinical link between the “interoceptive” mechanisms housed in the anterior insula, bodily activities and mental states in a manner that is mechanistically tied to subjective feelings, emotions and cognition. This understanding is considered essential to delineation of the fundamental relationships between bodily states and brain states. One requirement of this work is the integration of cutting-edge neuroimaging methods with state of the art structural assays that can isolate anatomically- and molecularly- labeled circuits within the Interoceptive-Autonomic Loop, in nonhuman animal preparations. An equally important requirement is establishment of comparative structure/function relations; i.e., ones that apply to human as well as nonhuman species. A final, overarching requirement will be development of a set of complementary research projects that can adapt to and exploit funding initiatives by NIH and other agencies, as well as parallel work by other investigators in the field.
Specific responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
· Development of innovative data acquisition and analytic
protocols for both structural and functional studies.
· Refinement of existing data acquisition and analytic
protocols for these studies.
· Procurement of external research funding from the NIH
and other agencies and/or foundations.
· Generation of high quality scientific publications and
presentations at scientific conferences.
· Training and supervision for junior staff.
Additional Comments BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND FEES:
